Black-eyed Pea Pulav

Ingredients :
1/2 cup black-eyed pea (soak in water for 6 hrs)
1 cup Basmati rice (soaked in water for 15 mins)
2 cups water
2 tomatoes
2 onions
2 green chilies
2 anises
4 black cardamoms
1/2 tsp black cumin seeds
4 garlic pods
2 tsp ginger
1 tsp chilly powder
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp cumin-coriander powder
1/4 tsp asafoetida
2 tbsp clarified butter
1/4 cup chopped coriander leaves

Method :
1. In a pressure cooker cook black-eyed pea. Keep aside.
2. Heat a pan. Add 1 tbsp clarified butter. Put 1 anise, 2 black cardamom and 1/4 tsp black cumin seeds. Fry for few seconds.
3. Add soaked Basmati rice and salt. Pour 2 cups of water. Cook rice until done. Keep aside.
4. In a mixer jar add 1 chopped tomato, 1 chopped onion , ginger and garlic. Grind to fine paste.
5. Heat a pan. Add 1 tbsp clarified butter. Put 1 anise, 2 black cardamom and 1/4 tsp black cumin seeds. Fry for few seconds.
6. Now add chopped green chilies. Pour ground paste, and add cumin-coriander powder, turmeric powder, chilly powder, asafoetida, and salt. Fry for 5 minutes.
7. Add cooked black-eyed pea. Mix well.
8. Now add cooked Basmati rice. Mix gently. Cook for few minutes. Switch off flame.
9. Garnish with coriander leaves.
10. Serve with raita.
